The Hagen AquaClear 20 Foam Filter Insert is a replacement filter that is exclusively designed for use with the AquaClear 20 Power Filter. The foam insert sits in the lower portion of the filter at the mechanical filtration stage. The foam block mostly provides mechanical filtration by physically trapping particles and debris as tank water passes through the filter. The foam filters have a tailored fit to prevent water from bypassing the foam block for more complete filtration. Hagen AquaClear 20 Foam Filter Inserts also offer a degree of biological filtration by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria, which is essential for the removal of harmful ammonia and nitrate. AquaClear 20 Foam Filter Inserts are suitable for use in tanks ranging in size from 5 to 20 U.S. gallons (18 to 76 liters). These filters are compatible with freshwater or saltwater aquariums.
