COVID-19 Update

In order to comply with the new restrictions implemented by Premier Doug Ford, effective December 26, 2020, we will be open for curbside service only. We are here to continue to serve you and your pets to the best of our abilities during these unpresidented times.

How we will be moving forward in doing business with you is the following:

To place an order:

  • You can go to our website at to order online and pay at the store.
  • You can call into the store at 905-560-1000 and place your order with the personnel in the respective department.
    • We will do our best to get to your call ASAP

  • We will need your name and contact information to let you know when the order is ready and the total of the order.

  • We are currently working on putting some form of ordering on our website, (no online payment is possible at this time) so you can place your orders more easily. They will be sent to us and we will fill the order based on current availability.

To pay for your order (Once your order had been filled based on current supplies):

  • If you placed your order outside the store, we will have a pinpad available at the door for paying by card. We will still accept cash but prefer cards to limit contact.

  • If you ordered over the phone, when we contact you with the completed order and total, you can either pay by card over the phone (NO CARD INFORMATION WILL BE KEPT BY US AT ANYTIME) and you will be given a sequence number in order to pick up your order, or you can pay at the door at the time of pickup as stated in the above option.

  • If you ordered online (once the online ordering for pickup is available), when we contact you with the completed order and total, the same payment options will apply as for the phoned in orders above.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in these difficult and changing times. These changes are new and experimental for both you and us. But rest assured, we are dedicated to serving you and your pets though these times and will implement better technology and features as time allows.

For ordering and pickups outside the store, social distancing will still be enforced for the protection of everyone.

We recommend only one family member come to order/pickup at the store to maintain social distancing more easily.

Big Al’s will continue to help protect the health and safety of our staff and customers and to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In complying with the government’s declaration of a state of emergency, including the mandated prohibiting of gatherings of more than 50 people and social distancing, the following steps have been implemented:

  • We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces. This includes shelves, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, pin pads, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.

  • We are requiring our employees to adhere to strict hygiene practices.

  • We are requiring our employees who are not feeling well to stay home and take all necessary precautions.

  • We are also asking all customers to stay home if they are not feeling well.

  • We reserve the right to turn away any customer that appears to be sick with COVID-19 like symptoms.

  • We reserve the right to adjust store hours as circumstances change. Currently our hours are 10am to 6pm, Monday through Sunday.

  • Big Al’s Hamilton has cancelled all weekly Shark Feeding Frenzy’s until further notice. Rest assured the shark will still be properly taken care of during this time.

  • All in-store sale events will be postponed until further notice.

To date, there is no evidence that companion animals or pets can spread COVID-19 (per CDC guidance). For the latest information about coronavirus and pets, we encourage you to visit the link below:

We are here to help you provide for the wellbeing of your fish and pets. We will remain open as long as the government allows us to, or as long as we feel it is safe for our staff and customers.
